Five Fun Things to Do in (or near) Oro Valley This Weekend

Five Fun Things to Do in (or near) Oro Valley This Weekend

Posted by the Desert Duo Team | Crouch Desert Duo at Coldwell Banker Realty

Summer is officially here, Oro Valley — and that means longer evenings, golden desert light, and a whole lot of reasons to get out and explore. Whether you’re a longtime resident of Rancho Vistoso or just discovered this incredible corner of Southern Arizona, this weekend has something for everyone. Here’s our roundup of five (plus a bonus!) things to do right in your own backyard.

1.  Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. at Ironwood Ridge High School

Friday, June 5 & Saturday, June 6  |  6:30 PM  |  Ironwood Ridge High School Theatre

Under the sea and right here in Oro Valley! The talented young performers at Ironwood Ridge are bringing Ariel’s world to life this weekend, and it’s going to be a blast for the whole family. Grab the kids (or just go because you love show tunes — no judgment here) and support some incredible local talent. Community theater like this is what makes Oro Valley such a special place to live.

2.  Hike Honey Bee Canyon Park — Petroglyphs & Saguaros Galore

Open daily  |  13880 N Rancho Vistoso Blvd, Oro Valley

If you haven’t explored Honey Bee Canyon Park yet, this is your weekend. This local gem features three miles of trails winding through classic Sonoran Desert scenery — sandy washes, towering saguaros, stunning views of the Santa Catalina Mountains, and ancient Hohokam petroglyphs that will genuinely stop you in your tracks. The Petroglyphs Trail is about 1.1 miles and accessible to almost all fitness levels, making it perfect for families with kids or anyone who just wants a peaceful morning outside. Go early (before 8 AM is ideal in June!), bring plenty of water, and keep your eyes open for desert wildlife. This trail is practically in your backyard if you’re in Oro Valley — no excuses!

Pro tip: Follow the sandy wash north under the Rancho Vistoso bridge to find the petroglyphs on your left. It’s a little bit of a treasure hunt!

3.  June/July in the Gallery with Xavier Valenzuela (El Hijo del Pueblo)

Saturday, June 6  |  1:00 PM  |  11061 N Oracle Rd Suite 150, Oro Valley

Spend a relaxing Saturday afternoon immersed in local art. Xavier Valenzuela’s opening reception is a wonderful chance to connect with Oro Valley’s creative community, see beautiful work, and maybe even bring home a piece of the Southwest. It’s the kind of low-key, high-vibe afternoon that makes you remember why you love living here.

4.  Meet a Tech Startup Mentor at the Chamber

Saturday, June 6  |  11:00 AM – Arrive Any Time  |  Oro Valley Chamber of Commerce

Are you (or someone you know) working on a side hustle, a small business, or a startup idea? This free drop-in event at the Oro Valley Chamber connects you with real tech startup mentors — no appointment needed, no pressure, just real conversations and great advice. Even if you’re not an entrepreneur yourself, it’s a fantastic way to plug into the local business community. Oro Valley’s growth is powered by people like you!

5.  Tee It Up at The Views Golf Club

Open daily  |  1555 E Rancho Vistoso Blvd, Oro Valley

Sometimes the best weekend plans involve a golf cart, a cool beverage, and 18 holes with breathtaking views of the Catalinas. The Views Golf Club is one of Oro Valley’s premier courses, and it’s a beautiful time of year before the real summer heat kicks into high gear. Whether you’re a scratch golfer or someone who just enjoys the scenery (and the snack cart), it’s a perfect Saturday or Sunday outing. Call ahead for tee times!

BONUS:  Explore Catalina State Park — Right Next Door

Open daily  |   Located at the base of the Santa Catalina Mountains in Oro Valley

We couldn’t write a “things to do this weekend” list without shouting out the crown jewel just down the road. Catalina State Park is home to nearly 5,000 saguaros, more than 150 bird species, and miles of trails through stunning high-desert foothills. Whether you’re hiking to the Romero Pools, birding at dawn, or just having a picnic with the mountains as your backdrop, it’s a world-class experience that most of us are lucky enough to call our neighbor. Don’t take it for granted!

Love Where You Live

Here at the Desert Duo Team, we truly believe that Oro Valley is one of the best-kept secrets in the entire Southwest — and we’re passionate about helping families discover it, explore it, and put down roots here. Whether you’re already a neighbor or you’ve been thinking about making the move, we’d love to chat.

And speaking of putting down roots — why not add one more stop to your weekend? We’re hosting an Open House this Sunday, June 7, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at 12908 Westminster Drive, Oro Valley. Come see what life in this incredible community really looks like from the inside. Who knows — your next chapter might be just around the corner!
